There are a number of ways you can use clary sage during childbirth:

• Put 2 drops on a dry cloth or flannel and inhale.
• Mix 2 drops of clary sage with 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil such as coconut oil, jojoba oil or olive oil, and massage gently around your abdomen area, including hips, pelvis and lower back. You can also apply it to your feet and palms.
• Put 2 drops on a cotton ball and put under your pillow or near where you are labouring.
• Mix 2 drops of clary sage with 1 teaspoon of a carrier oil such as coconut oil, jojoba oil or olive oil, and massage gently on acupressure points including your inner ankle or centre of feet soles.

• Always consult your midwife before using essential oils during pregnancy or childbirth.
• As clary sage oil induces contractions of the uterus, it should only be used when you have reached your due date.
• Do not apply the oil directly onto your skin without using a carrier oil.
